Simply Six: Goldishack Guerillas

1. For many artists, they cite a defining moment for themselves when they knew they wanted to be a singer.  For many it was the appearance of Elvis on the Ed Sullivan show, to another generation it was the Beatles’ appearance on Sullivan half a decade later.  Is there such a defining moment for you?

GOLDI:  nope.  RCYN:  For me it was the first time I heard jermaine dupre rap, I thought to myself hell anybody can do this.

2. When you’re not creating music what are you listening to?  Who are some of your favorites?

GOLDI: i should defer to someone else on this.  i have a habit of not listening to music when i'm creating it, which is a large portion of my life.  RCYN: When i'm making music, I'm watching the news... while the roots, boy or conscious reggae is playing in the back.

3. What would you say is your greatest moment so far as an artist, either on record or live?

GOLDI: when we get a sincere understanding of our music or what we're doing.  i recently was thanked for our presence at the Rally To Restore Sanity by a man who protested the Vietnam war in 1969.  i was floored .. thank YOU man!

4.  Do you believe music can change the world or is just something to listen to?   How much can music influence current events?

GOLDI:  The Guerrillas intend to find out how much music can influence.  we think it's a beautiful thing when music can be both great to listen to and contain a great message.  that said, great music is great music, regardless of the message.  RCYN:   I believe music can definitely change the world. Unfortunately it hasn't made a significant positive change since john lennon and bob marley died. Now most hit songs usually are either teaching us how to dance or uplifting our spirits enough to go shop.

5. How has technology affected the music industry?  How has technology affected your career as a musician?

GOLDI:  funny we've talked about that a lot around here.  technology has allowed us to record our own great sounding albums.  and with that kind of power and unlimited studio time, it's also allowed us to have a great time creating.  it's something you can hear on our albums -- we sound like we're having a great time making them because we are.

6.  Now for my Barbara Walters question:  If you were a pair of shoes what type of shoes would you be?

GOLDI (& RCYN):  combat boots!  probably a recent model that doesn't feel like cement blocks on your feet.  i mean really... how DID they fight those wars back then??
