Spotlight: Skinny Bitches

Webpage: http://www.skinnybitchesmusic.com
Location: Toronto, ON, Canada
Description: A two piece boy/girl rock band. Ricardo on guitar and Robyn on drums. Both sing - flexing harmonies and call & answer duets. Influenced by Fleetwood Mac, The Strokes, Death From Above
Biography: Robyn Craig and Ricardo Temporao are Toronto musicians and friends who decided to start jamming in early 2011 with him on guitar and her on drums. By experimenting with harmonies and heavy arrangements (reflecting influences from Belle and Sebastian to Death From Above) they tried singing with and against each other. From sweet sounding layers to biting reminders that duet is a four letter word, they figured they might be on to something a little different. Skinny Bitches was born.

The focus became material that could reflect their love of rock'n'roll while writing melodies that allowed each voice to compliment the other. This concept is at the heart of their early video "Let's Get Lost" (whose setting seems like that of a Brazilian carnival). After recording some demos they went on to play a few shows in Toronto and Montreal.

Most recently, they released their self-produced EP "Debut" and accompanying video "Gunsmoke" which demonstrates how this may be pound for pound one of the loudest rock bands going... but then again they're just a couple of Skinny Bitches.

Spotlight: Kevin M Buck

Webpage: http://www.kevinmbuck.com
Location: Lockport, IL, United States
Description: Buck is a world-renowned guitar player/teacher. He is the author of the extremely popular guitar method book and e-book entitled Guitar in Theory and Practice. Buck has released 3 albums: Initiation, Euphoric Darkness and Musick for the New Aeon.
Biography: Kevin M. Buck began violin lessons at age six and guitar lessons at age eleven. In high school, Buck’s original heavy metal band enjoyed a faithful following throughout the Chicagoland area, playing at such legendary clubs as The Thirsty Whale, The Riviera, and The Vic Theater.

Buck has shared the stage with acclaimed artists such as Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions), Joe Lynn Turner (Deep Purple, Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen), Disturbed, and many others including Roger Daltry (The Who), who remarked that Kevin M. Buck is “one of the greatest guitarists ever.” Leslie West of Mountain said, “This kid has a f^cking encyclopedia worth of sh!t in his mind.” Steve Vai (Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth, Whitesnake, Alcatrazz) stated, “I listened to a handful of your sound clips and was impressed with your technique on the instrument. Sounds like you have great control. Jam on.”

Buck won the 2003 Guitar Idol Competition sponsored by 97.9 WLUP-FM in Chicago. He was also in the August 2004 issue of Guitar World Magazine.

In 1996, Buck formed The Blizzard of Ozz, the highly successful Ozzy Osbourne tribute band. Today, The Blizzard of Ozz continues to tour the country, playing over sixty Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne songs. Buck has received much praise for his work with The Blizzard of Ozz, and they were voted top 3 tribute bands in 2005 by the Midwest Beat’s readers’ poll. “It is some of the greatest music of which to pay tribute. I love the guitar styles of Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee, Zakk Wylde, and Tony Iommi," says Buck. "The music offers enough diversity to make my job fun as f^ck, and still allows for my own self expression." Buck has also played many sold out shows with Battery, the national Metallica tribute act that opened shows for Metallica themselves on the Garage, Inc. tour.

Kevin M. Buck’s first album, Initiation was released on October 11, 2003. Initiation is an instrumental rock album and displays Buck’s creative and virtuosic guitar playing. Jason Becker (Cacophony, David Lee Roth) commented on Initiation saying, “I like the CD a lot. You’re the man.” Buck has organized two benefit concerts for Jason Becker to help find a cure for Lou Gehrig’s disease.

In 2006, Uli Jon Roth awarded Buck a scholarship to attend Sky Academy in Los Angeles. Buck played with and learned from Roth, who thinks Buck’s playing is “very good, very very good. . . some very inventive and creative stuff.”

Buck enjoys teaching at guitar clinics. Buck also gives private guitar lessons as well. Buck teaches all styles of music, and has been doing so for over fifteen years.

Euphoric Darkness was released October 11, 2007. Euphoric Darkness is a collection of heavy metal songs with unique and memorable vocals, riffs, and solos. This album features Buck’s songwriting and vocal abilities, along with his insane guitar talent. Buck has authored a book about guitar playing and music theory titled Guitar in Theory and Practice. Buck’s latest album, Musick for the New Aeon, will be released in the summer of 2011 and features Atma Anur on drums and Ferdy Doernburg on keyboards. Buck’s future plans include more recording and touring, and an instructional DVD.
Press Release:
Kevin M Buck to release his incredible third album, Musick for the New Aeon, on April 20, 2012

Mar 23, 2012 (Mass Media Distribution LLC via COMTEX) -- Musick for the New Aeon is a collection of eleven guitar-oriented songs in the rock and heavy metal genre with some progressive and neoclassical influences. Musick for the New Aeon is a reflection of Kevin M Buck's personality as a musician, artist and person.

Musick for the New Aeon features Kevin M Buck playing electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitar, and he sings on two songs. Musick for the New Aeon features one of the greatest drummers of all time, Atma Anur, who played with Jason Becker, Cacophony, Greg Howe, Tony Macalpine, Ritchie Kotzen, Journey and several other great acts. His playing on this album is totally unbelievable. The album also features incredible keyboard work from Ferdy Doernberg who plays with Axel Rudi Pell and has played with the master Uli Jon Roth. Musick for the New Aeon includes Kevin M Buck's wonderful four part electric guitar arrangement of Fugue in G Minor written by Johann Sebastian Bach. One of the most interesting things about the musick on Musick for the New Aeon is the harmonies and melodies created from thought forms that have not manifested themselves on the earth for several aeons, if at all. This is apparent in tracks like Musick for the New Aeon, Impending Doom, and the song OTO.

Buck is a world-renowned guitar teacher. He is the author of the extremely popular guitar method book and e-book entitled Guitar in Theory and Practice. Buck has released two other albums: Initiation and Euphoric Darkness. Buck has received many accolades for his playing. Uli Jon Roth has called Kevin M Buck inventive, creative and a virtuoso. Roger Daltrey of the Who has called Kevin M Buck one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Leslie West of Mountain said that Buck has an encyclopedia worth of sh*t in his mind. Buck plays guitar for the Metallica tribute band Battery, the Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath tribute band Blizzard of Ozz, and his own band Kevin M Buck. He will be playing with all three bands at his record release party on April 20, 2012 at Q Sports Bar in Darien, Illinois.

The first single from Musick for the New Aeon is a heavy metal version of the Pink Floyd song Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun. Visit www.kevinmbuck.com for more information and to listen to the single.

Biography: Alan Whitfield
British Songwriter & Composer
A Profile

It was a few years ago when I began to write songs on the advice of my college tutor. What a break that was. A journey that was going to be a wonderful experience.

Since that time I have had 22 songs released in US on a New York label B Atlas records.

Having achieved sales I decided to write songs for others to record. This lead to some of my songs being published in UK by Sleeping Giant Music based in London. It became a priority to position my future song writing for a variety of musical outlets. More at that time I signed a publishing contract for my song “Say No” with Hiway 60 Music a Nashville music publisher.

With the onset of the internet I sent my songs to Australia for radio play having seen a request in the music press. My song “Summer Sun” got on the play list and reached No 1 in the ILR World Independent charts and stayed there for 10 weeks.

NBT Records Berkeley Springs have also included two of my songs on their Ride the Train CD volume 4 and volume 6. Also my song “Train Nation” has been included on the Ride the Train volume 21 released in 2007.

In 2007 I completed 12 songs for my CD “Time” which I sent to Sibeerecords UK for review. I am delighted to say that these songs were released in 2008. This release is Receiving regular sales.

2008 I released the CD “Sundown” which has received good airplay and is still enjoying some digital download sales.

2009 I released another CD “OH NO” consisting of 12 new tracks.

2010 I released the CD “Back Home” which also consisits of 12 new tracks. 10 of these songs have also been released on SiBeerecords. I have enjoyed radio play throughout the World and continue to receive good reviews. The track Back Home has been particularly well received.

2011 “Writing’s On The Wall” CD was released consisting of 12 new tracks.

2012 Gotham Records UK have included the Track “Writing’s On The Wall” on their Midem CD. Also 2 Tracks on their SXSW 2012 CD “Gone Away” and “Down The Line”. Gotham are also going to LA SYNC 2012 and I have the track “How Long Does It Take” Included. I have completed my next CD “Sail Away” which has just been released.

I am driven by such great musicians as John Lennon and Paul McCartney and also Mark Knophler who was the inspiration for my song “Hell’s Corridor” with his haunting guitar riffs. He also comes from the North East of England not far from my home Town.

Spotlight: Chris Cornelius

Webpage: http://www.cc.musicflows.com
Location: Castaic, California, USA
Description: Chris Cornelius is a versitile singer/songwriter/artist that conveys heartfelt messages with spiritual overtones, in his multi-textural guitar based songs.
Biography: Born in Mason, Michigan, Chris is a son of the late talented jazz keyboardist John Cornelius who in addition to many years of touring the US, accompanied the legendary singer Patti Page ("How much is that doggie in the window") early in her career. Chris moved with his family to Los Angeles at age 5 after his middle aged father retired from music to raise his new family. He got his first guitar at age 7 and took up the accordion at age 8. After a few years of lessons he became quite accomplished on the accordion and went to several state competitions where he won first, second and third place trophies. After being teased endlessly by his friends, he decided that playing the accordion wasn't cool anymore and gave it up at age 12. In junior high school he played clarinet and bass clarinet in the school orchestra for 2 years.

Being influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin, Yes, The Beatles, America and the artist Neil Young ( to name a few), he started playing and writing folk and rock music. In later years his taste has expanded to include jazz, blues, classical, new age and several world music styles.

Chris is mainly a self taught musician who discovered early on that he had an intuitive ability to assimilate and blend many styles of music into his own unique sound. Though not formally schooled in music, Chris studied music theory and harmony from books and very talented musician friends who were graduates of schools like Musicians Institute in Hollywood and Berklee School of Music in Boston.

From the mid 80's through the mid 90's Chris played in several LA based rock bands: "The Audience", "The C.J. Cornelius Band" (country rock), "Persuasion", "Turning Point", and "Uncle Fester's Hot Tub Club Band" (dig that name!) to name a few. In the late 90's Chris formed an acoustic trio with his brother Marc and former girlfriend Tammy Ray called Cornelius Ray. With three part harmonies, guitars and assorted flutes, playing a blend of original and cover songs, they performed for 2 years around the LA area. Since then Chris has continued to record and perform live as solo artist.

Chris's other credits include producing several projects for indie artists in Southern California and co-producing sessions at A & M Studios in Hollywood. In collaboration with "Turning Point" guitarist Marc Rivett, he also wrote, produced, performed and recorded the soundtrack for the feature film "Cold Heat" Starring Britt Eckland. From March to September 2006, Chris successfully toured the Philippines promoting his 3rd solo CD "On the road to you". Since the year 2000 Chris's Newest CD release "The Eyes of a Dreamer" is a compilation of the "best" songs from his first 4 solo CDs.

Over the years Chris has become a versatile musician and singer with a sound that is a blend of pop/rock, folk, acoustic and world music influences with a touch of new age, jazz, classical, and country here and there. He is mainly a singer-guitarist but also plays keyboards, bass, wood and clay flutes, assorted hand drums and percussion.

Press Release:
9/14/2012
Chris's latest release "The Eyes of a Dreamer" is a 14 song download album featuring generally folkish pop/rock style arrangements fused with world music instrumentation on a few songs. The lyrics are honest, heartfelt and inspired.

Spotlight: Scott's Garage

Webpage: http://www.scottsgarageband.com
Location: Richmond, VA, USA
Description: Southern Power pop with sounds of The Smithereens, Gin Blossoms, Matthew Sweet and R.E.M.
Biography: Scott’s Garage is a four-piece power pop band from Richmond, VA that has just released “Soul Magnet”, their follow-up to their self-titled debut. Formed by drummer Scott Baird in early 2007, the band includes bassist John Bollinger, vocalist and guitarist Gary Hankins, and multi-instrumentalist Greg Marrs.
Press Release:
Scott's Garage "Soul Magnet" - Absolute Powerpop www.absolutepopwerpop.com

One of my favorite discoveries of 2008 was Scott's Garage and their self-titled debut album which placed a very high #13 on my year-end list. Led by Scott Baird and Gary Hankins, the Garage has become one of the leading lights in Southern-styled power pop a la Mitch Easter, Let's Active and early R.E.M., and their brand-new followup Soul Magnet follows nicely from the debut and adds a touch of humor and (yes) soul to the mix.

Things kick off with the bright power pop of the title track, featuring some nice guitar work from Hankins (who also contributes lead vocals), and sounding like a Southern-styled Smithereens or Goldbergs. "The Girl With the Yippy Dog" brings a bit of Terry Anderson-styled humor to the mix, as our protagonist loves the girl but hates the dog ("I wish she had a Labrador", he laments). "December Stars" is a melodic gem, and the cheekiness continues with "You Were Such a Tool (I Remember High School)", a jangly power pop number that says what we'd all want to say to that certain person we unfortunately meet up again at a reunion (or these days on Facebook). "Kaledioscope" lets you know you've got a southern rock band on your hands, with a bit of a swamp boogie sound, and the midtempo "Wasting Time" has all the power ballad trappings. Speaking of Facebook, "Add Me as Your Friend"'s title speaks for itself, as Hankins does everything but mention Farmville in his ode to social media while still maintaining a catchy tune.

Elsewhere, "Rosetta Stone" sounds like a Mitch Easter/Don Dixon classic, "Underground" and "Time to Think" rock hard and melodic, and the uptempo "High Above the Fray" closes things on a high note in Chuck Berry style. Soul Magnet is a Southern-fried power pop treat, and you can enjoy with or without barbecue. The Garage is open.

Spotlight: littleSUNDAY

Webpage: http://www.littlesunday.com
Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario, CANADA
Description: littleSUNDAY is the epitome of Canadian rock music: strong rock songs with catchy melodies, powerful vocals and solid song-writing
Biography: In the spring of 2011, littleSUNDAY began work on their newest recording project, 'peace.love.goodkarma'. Described by drummer Eric Bonatti as a 'labour of love', the new album is shaping to be a 14 track collection of songs that not only test the band’s versatility in creating `light and shade,' but more importantly, the new album will showcase the their ability to become story tellers:

"Throughout my musical journey with littleSUNDAY, I had the privilege of meeting many new people. I'd hear their stories about love, loss pain and joy. I kept a personal journal where I reflected on these experiences and realised I had a guide for living life. The morals we learn from real life experiences truly put our personal lives in perspective. I soon became obsessed in sharing them through song. What came next was a collection of music that literally wrote themselves." (Rick Farrell)

What is peace.love.goodkarma? On December 1st, 2011, littleSUNDAY released “Panic Room”, a feeler track. Riding on nothing more than positive vibes and a dash of littleSUNDAY DIY magic, the band serviced Panic Room grassroots style, to a handful of radio stations. The response paid off! From Halifax to Vancouver, to Northern Ontario all the way to Southern Texas and Sao Paul, Brazil, Panic Room quickly reached radio station airwaves:

“We never imagined that the song (Panic Room), would create such a high traffic of interest, let alone radio airplay. We must be doing something right after all these years, LOL.” (Mario Stamegna)

What is peace.love.goodkarma? littleSUNDAY was formed by a twist of events that lead to the ultimate union of its four members. In fairy tale fashion, drummer Eric Bonatti, guitarist JP, and bassist Mario Stamegna discovered their lead vocalist, Rick Farrell, who would became the final and most influential member of the band.

"littleSUNDAY delivers an exciting stage show reminding me of my arena rock heroes of the 70s. Their original sound unquestionably raises the bar of today's music" (Chris White, Publisher / Party in Kingston)

littleSUNDAY journeyed its way onto the music scene delivering a natural blend of rock music. When describing the sound of littleSUNDAY, it's no surprise that critics and fans alike draw from the same fountain of the rock gods themselves: just think alternative rock with irresistible melodic hooks while integrating classic rock influences. It's as if Stone Temple Pilots, Nickelback and Collective Soul were put in a blender with Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. What you get is a Rock~lectic! Then throw in awe-inspiring live performances; it's true ROCK EUPHORIA!

The group has experimented with various kinds of rock genres, and in the end melded all of their influences into the radio-friendly alt-rock sound they possess today. It is one that will easily fit with artists that are popular today, as evidenced by their recent pairings with comparative acts such as Thornley, Default, Grady, Suzie McNeil, Edwin, Honeymoon Suite, See Spot Run, Jonas, and Econoline Crush.
Make no mistake, littleSUNDAY music brings something to the table for everyone: crunching guitar riffs and a super solid drum attack for the rock purists, poignant lyrics to draw in the sentimentalists, and sweet hooks that catch the attention of all those in between.
“littleSUNDAY are one of the hardest working Indie bands I have come across. They are so dedicated and I look forward to watching them achieve the levels of success that they deserve..." (Derm Carnduff, Program Director / Y108 ROCKS, 107.9FM)

What is peace.love.goodkarma? In 2003, littleSUNDAY released their first CD, “Day of Hollow”. The release revealed a harder edged flair, which soon landed several awards including 'Best Online Band', 'Rogers Online Superstars', and inclusion on several promotional compilations. As the band evolved, they dipped into the alt-pop scene on 2006’s 'Cross the Line'. The release of their second album seeded not only a distribution deal with Yahoo! Music Canada, but a major endorsement by Carparelli Guitars, a company noted for their stellar workmanship and their crafting of some of the finest musical instruments in the world. While both albums had regional success and garnered industry attention, these talented musicians realised they needed to solidify their sound, merging the rock with the pop, and the result is a revitalized and innovative style sure to put this band on the map outside of their home base.
What is peace, love, good karma? In late November of 2007, littleSUNDAY released their third CD, “Wait For Tomorrow” across Canada, under the Addictive/ Universal Music label. The title track was serviced to major stations throughout the country. One listen to tracks such as “It’s My Life” and “Too Late” from the “Wait For Tomorrow” album, exemplify this new direction, and it cannot be denied that this band has taken all of their experience and grown into a force to be reckoned with in the musical arena. The first single is still in rotation in major regional radio stations. In 2009, littleSUNDAY released, “Let it All Out”. Tracks such as “Pretty Girl”, “Sweet Conversation” and “Get Out” not only received steady rotation on radio and internet radio, but also have appeared in several short films and extreme sports DVDs. “Let it All Out” also garnished accolades that included, 'Breakout Band 2008', 'Best New Rock 2009 at the BNM Awards'.

"littleSUNDAY is the epitome of Canadian rock music: strong rock songs with catchy melodies, powerful vocals and solid song-writing" (Melanie Schade, Music Director & Editor)

From rotation airplay on radio stations, numerous accolades, distribution deals and endorsements by highly respected instrument companies, it is readily apparent that people are taking notice.
So what is peace.love.goodkarma? With the release of their new CD slated for sometime 2012, the answer is simple: peace, love, good karma is a symbol of hope and all good things to come for littleSUNDAY!

When people think of York Region musically, they don t think of hard rock with pounding bass and drums, wailing guitars and vocals that make you pay attention. But, that s exactly what littleSUNDAY is. They are a straightforward rock band that make most Toronto bands look like amateurs.

That may be because all four members have been playing in other projects for over a decade. The band was formed just over a year ago in June of 2002 by guitarist JP, bassist Mario, vocalist Rick and drummer Eric. The story of how the band formed is possibly just as interesting as their music. Rick met JP and Eric in a bar on a night when their band s singer didn t show up and Rick was dragged onstage after some coaxing. JP and Rick later spoke about starting a new band and with Eric had a cd ready within a year.

Rick then moved to Tokyo for a year and when he came back they had a cd, but no bassist. During this time littleSUNDAY entered the Global Unsigned Band War for fun, and won Best New Unsigned Band. However, they still had no bassist. Finally after much searching, they found Mario. And with Mario came the plan. If you re a band and you are serious the first thing to do is have a plan, says Rick Farrell.

Their plan isn t to conquer the world with their music, but the band believes that they can go somewhere with their music, and are prepared to work hard for it. In the short time that littleSUNDAY has been together, they seen a lot of success winning contests; they finished in the top 5 for Canada s Best Online Indie Band, and they were semi-finalists in 97.7 s Rock Search. They have also most recently opened for The Salads in Sudbury. They are also working on their second EP. But all that they have accomplished isn t enough for them.

The more we ve done, the more we see there is to do, explains Mario. Their sound makes it easy to believe that they can get anywhere they want to. Although they have a hard rock base they also have the ability to make each song sound unique. They have their loud, thumping rock songs, but then they also have their softer, more melodic songs.

Their trick to songwriting is that if the song doesn t come together within twenty minutes they scrap it. The fact that Rick has written about 600 songs in the past ten years probably helps. Rick comes in with the simplest of songs and the band finishes it off together. They channel JP and Eric s energies into the songs to make them feel more alive.

One thing that makes their songwriting technique so interesting is that the lyrics and music are written at the same time, mainly because Rick will sing to anything. But they try to make their songs as simple as possible, because they believe that simple is always best.

littleSUNDAY is a band that knows how to write songs that will capture their audience s attention and this is a trait that will help them reach those goals that they set for themselves.

Track 10. littleSUNDAY - Crash: Although I am not into nu metal that much, Little Sunday's "Crash" won my attention. It's an amazing song, very aggressive, very rhythmical, straight in the face and I think the oriental tunes they added in their music, offers a whole new dimension to this genre. Excellent song!

(Review of the song "Crash") CAUTION: GROOVEMEISTERS ahead! You sick bas*ards! This Track was Bad-assed funky! What a rippin groove with heavy vocal and guitar work. The Lead guitar work was Nasty!!! I'm totally loving this freaking tune!.. The performance was heavy-duty, the Chorus was cool, and the production was really good! This song goes on my playlist. Keep up the Good work.

With modern rock radio littered with so many Creed and Nickelback-ish bands it's not hard to see why little Sunday can't find a place alongside them. World domination? At least EDGE 102 domination, for sure!

All Music Guide
Jason MacNeil

Resembling a band that grew up on Nickelback, Creed, and Pearl Jam to a lesser extent, Little Sunday kicks off Day of Hollow with "God Save Me". The song has a nü metal backdrop with hard yet radio-friendly rock..."Black & Blue" is probably the album's shining moment: a hard rock tune that has enough melody to carry it through from start to finish. "Change" is an uplifting and melodic rock tune that has some spiritual overtones like Collective Soul's "Shine." The structure follows the same path as the first tune but "Crash" has more of a funky edge to it. Lead singer Rick Farrell sounds like a cross between Pearl Jam and Incubus on this tune. The rhythm section is also very tight, perhaps too tight at times. "Just Gone" shows more of a pop rock angle along the lines of The Calling, but with a far grittier tone. It's also one of the better songs on the album. Little Sunday takes things down slightly on "Tear Me Down," with an off-kilter tempo... Drummer Eric Bonatti gives a fine performance here with some intricate solos and support. "Break Point" has a blues/rock feeling oozing from it; making it another favorite with a Led Zeppelin rhythm section. If there's one negative to the record, it's the fact that too many of these songs come from the same musical arena, making the homestretch of the album slightly repetitive. "Probe" has a certain arena rock ballad aura to it with the obligatory solos and a punishing, brooding bass line. Only on "Out Of Time" does Little Sunday briefly take an electric hiatus, opting for a lighter acoustic touch.

The Tijuana Bibles with littleSUNDAY, Shyne Factory and Big Jeezus Truck: One of the hottest weeks in Toronto ended with a blast at the HORSESHOE when the LIVE ROCK SHOOTER Toronto Club Tour made stop #3.This was a very interesting line-up that stretched all the way from cutting edge modern rock back to the roots of jumped-up kick-ass countrified rock n roll. One of the GTA's most promising new acts "littleSUNDAY" started the night off with a mix of tracks from their debut cd "Day of Hollow". The highlights for the enthusiastic fans were the lead off track "God Save Me" and new single "Black & Blue" which features a really cool guitar intro and solo by JP. Watch for littleSUNDAY at an upcoming LIVE ROCK SHOOTER date.

I ve met so many great people in one way or another through The Tea Party; whether it be from concerts, through discussion forums, through The Zone, etc.! As it turns  out, I met Eric, who is the drummer for a band called Little SUNDAY. I recently recieved a copy of littleSUNDAY s independent CD, Day of Hollow . To be quite honest, I was a little apprehensive about listening to it. My reservations were alleviated after a few seconds of listening. These guys are awesome! I recently had the pleasure of seeing them perform live at the Legendary Toronto Club, The Horseshoe. littleSUNDAY s no-nonsense, gimmick-free approach to their hard rock sound is fresh! No panache, just good old-fashioned rock played simply, honestly and genuinely. Their musicianship is outstanding and the songwriting is impressive. Their songs are heavy, yet totally accessible. My personal favourite track is God Save Me (what is it about these save me songs that attracts me so?). I can easily envision this getting airplay as a single. Check the band out at www.littlesunday.com. The site includes audio samples, so have a listen for yourself!

This is probably the best thing I've heard on this site in weeks. It's a new sound, and you make it your own. Very Blind Mellon meets Pearl Jam. Brilliant. Catchy, inventive riffs with a strong rock undertow. I'm 22, and I have a 5-month old daughter. I listened to your song 4 times, and every time she danced to the song and cried when it ended. I know that doesn't normally mean anything. (I'm in a band, and I know that wouldn't mean a damn thing to me.  However, my daughter only likes good music. You sold both of us. Stellar.

Spotlight: Mother

Webpage: http://www.rockyourmother.com
Location: New York, New York, US
Description: Mother is an eclectic group of musicians from diverse musical backgrounds, conjoining to make powerful, groove-driven rock n' roll. The hard hitting sounds are glazed with a melodic vocal style and touches of harmonic layering.
Biography: When you hear the word “Mother,” what comes to mind? The word in itself is strong, forceful, and commanding, while bringing about a life giving, nurturing feeling. This group of four from the New York metropolitan area encompasses the above and much more. From the stage, Mother is in charge, much like in the household. The energy and confidence is what drives each performance of their heavy, groove-driven aural fix. Meanwhile, the songs will scoop you up by the hips and hold you in place searching for more once the last note settles.

Formed in the spring of 2011, these newborns have grown fast enough to fulfill the duties of their moniker in a very short time. Upon asking, the guys might tell you they met on E-Harmony, or in a Guatemalan jail cell. The truth: the perfect combination of being in the right place with the right people at the right time. Vocalist Nick Fargo and Bassist Johnny Bass had a previous musical relationship in the New Jersey based Zodiac. The dissolution of this group sparked an introduction to guitarist Mike Gowen, fresh off the bus in NYC eager to find a match. While attempting the combination of a second guitar player, drummer Anthony Sciasci migrated north on the Turnpike with a passion for the heavy grooves that drive the machine they call Mother.

The members embrace their own internal dissonance. Hence the name of their debut release, Dissonant Young. Upon meeting it was hard to get a feel for what road their sound would take. These fellas closed their eyes, and let it take over. A listener may be able to pick out bits and pieces of individual influences, but as a whole, this is something new. Taking hints from monsters like Sabbath and Zeppelin, passing it through the compositions of Queen or Muse, and surrounding it with bottom heavy reminders of Pantera, Soundgarden, and Godsmack; these being just a few pieces of the sonic puzzle. Tack on a well-placed piano and a mixed vocal style marrying the likes of Layne Staley and Jeff Buckley, you are well on your way to a solution.

Dissonant Young was released in January of 2012 to a beyond capacity crowd at The Bitter End in NYC. The record flows in a fashion that doesn’t let you turn away, much like the band’s live show. Staples such as “Digital Monster” and “As You Run” pack a fast and heavy punch; while “So Long” and “Out Alive” bring a serenade-like blues feel to the table. Spotlight: Eric Lee

Webpage: http://www.ericleeofficial.com
Location: Enterprise, Alabama, Uniter States
Description: Eric Lee songs are the epitome of country music. His songs range from down right foot stompin’, line dancing, full out country to country ballads that make you want to cuddle up close with your loved one.
Biography: Eric Lee debut CD “Southern Redneck” gets rave reviews!

Eric Lee started playing guitar at the age of 13. He grew up listening to bluegrass and had always lived the life of a country boy. At 18, he joined the military where he joined his first band. He has played with several bands on and off over the next few years but decided that solo is the right direction to take. He has recorded with Larry Marrs (bassist for Marty Stewart) and Dennis Wage (Pianist for T.Graham Brown).

Eric Lee songs are the epitome of country music. His songs range from down right foot stompin’, line dancing, full out country to country ballads that make you want to cuddle up close with your loved one. Everything about him and his music are light hearted (or he makes it sound that way) and easy on the ears and brings joy to your heart.

Three particular songs are a clear representation of the diverse and versatility of this country crooner. Songs such as “Small Town Ways”, “Ordinary Places” and “When It Comes to Lovin’” truly show off his innate talents each with their own unique flavor. Eric is a consummate storyteller and fans love that part of his music.

“Small Town Ways” is about simple living in rural America. It starts out with that famous up-tempo piano introduction that makes you want to grab your girl and give it a whirl on the dance floor. It has an insatiable dance rhythm that makes your heart kick up a beat

. “Ordinary Places” “is about basic everyday living that we all take for granted”, states Eric. This song is a ballad with that country flare. His vocals are crisp and truly unique. The melody and rhythm of this song is beautiful.

“When It Comes To Lovin” is about a person that gives up on love because he cannot seem to find the right person and is skittish to try it again. This songs show fans a different edge to Eric’s music. He has a tale to tell. Like a storybook you pay just a little more attention to the words, like a great novel.

Eric Lee is planning a South Regional tour starting in the fall of 2012. There is also an Autism Benefit Concert in West Virginia on October 13 that he will be playing at.

“Just your everyday guy that believes hard work and doing what’s right is most important. Stay who you are”.

Spotlight: Megan King

Webpage: http://www.meganking.net
Location: Warsaw, IN, United States
Description: Haunting melodic vocals that will rip your heart out and tuck it in for bed. Megan sings with the emotion of a lost siren; Whatzup Magazine acclaims her as "fantastic, full of emotive vocals and impassioned acoustic-based tunes." Visit www.megankin
Biography: Megan King just recently completed her third album, Lion Heart (released 5-12-12). Megan recorded Lion Heart at Java Jive Studios in Nashville, TN (www.javajivestudio.com) with acclaimed producer, Mark Hornsby (www.markhornsby.com). She had the privilege of working with esteemed session players, Phil Naish and Brian MacLeod. Naish played all keyboards on the album, and MacLeod performed drums. Hornsby and fellow Java Jive alum, Dave Martin, contributed the bass on the album. All music, lyrics, guitar, and vocals were done by King.

Although Megan's last album, Pretty Songs LP, was self produced and received rave reviews, Lion Heart takes it to the next level with the professionalism of a Nashville recording studio, and the seasoned contribution of session players such as Naish and MacLeod.

King stated of Lion Heart, "This is my best work yet. If I died tomorrow, I would be proud to leave this album behind as my legacy. Lion Heart contains songs for the dreamers in the world. It's about believing in your path, no matter the failures, fear, or betrayals... it's about overcoming, and seizing the lion in your heart. I couldn't be happier with how it all turned, and the honor of having such incredible talent contribute to the album. This was a dream come true-- not only to work with Mark, Phil, and Brian, but to finally see these songs come to birth in the way you've always envisioned them."

Kristi Martin, from The Chrome Lens Photography (www.thechromelens.com) contributed all photos for the album. Kristi is an incredible photographer, and is an old friend of Megan's from High School. Two strong women out there making it happen in art! Kristi and Megan ran into each other at the grocery store. Kristi was wanting to do a photo shoot with a female musician and Megan was looking for a photographer for her album. The result is a perfect tribute to the theme of the album. Check out the rest of the photos here, and Kristi's touching caption (We love Kristi): Megan King - Lion Heart.

Where did it all start, and where is it going? King started her musical career in her bedroom at the age of 16, tooling around with an Ibanez electric guitar. For the past 15 years, Megan has honed in on her craft, playing all over the nation and at regional showcases such as the Ohio River Valley Folk Festival, where she shared the stages with artists such as Roger McGuinn (The Byrds), Todd Snider, and Lucy Kaplansky. Megan also performed in Cincinatti's Midpoint Music Festival and opened C2G's stages for Dublin's Guggenheim Grotto, Miche Fambro, Drew DeFour and Canada's Juno Award winning Chic Gamine.

Spotlight: Hannah Anders

Webpage: http://www.hannahanders.com
Location: North Hollywood, CA, USA
Description:
Biography: Hannah Anders releases debut EP “Turn It Up”

Hannah Anders has been singing since she could speak (according to her mother). Her entire life has been spent writing, performing and entertaining. She lived in Nashville for 6 years where she studied vocal performance at Belmont University. She also owns a vocal coaching business there. Nashville really supported her writing and singing efforts. Three years ago, she moved to Los Angeles. It was a journey she needed to take to further her career in country music. Hannah began auditioning musicians for her band. The criteria for band members were specific; creative vision and ultimate goal needed to fit perfectly with what Hannah envisioned for her band. Now with band members in place, she has taken the step to produce her debit EP “Turn It Up”.

The lead single “Trainwreck” is off her EP “Turn It Up”. Teaming up with Rusty Van Sickle to complete the writing of this song gave it the edge it needed to gain the attention it ultimately received. “Trainwreck” was her first song that was written, produced, and recorded exactly as she envisioned it. She was elated with the results and was aware that she pushed the envelope as a female country singer.

The single “Trainwreck” is about your relationship being a train wreck. The warning signs have been there all along but still you rode it out until the very end. This song is a high voltage powerhouse of a song. A country tune injected with a bit of rock ‘n roll will wake you up and grab your attention. Hannah Anders did just that. She is the new country star to shake up the music industry.

Hannah Anders rivals some of the most well known country female artists out there. Thinking outside the box allowed her the freedom to write and produce edgier music that would surely catch audience’s attention. In fact, it has. With her extraordinary talents, Hannah is here to delight and entertain. Her songs are strong; written and performed to perfection, and challenges the best in the industry. Her EP “Turn It Up” is currently available at most digital storefronts. The full length CD is set for release early in 2013.

Hannah Anders is a member of RAG. Last year they played for the Texas Longhorn tailgage party at the Rosebowl to over 5000 Texans. She has recently teamed up with Big Ride Records in Nashville, Tn. and also working with A & R Select in Beverly Hills, Ca. for licensing, recording deals, publishing and/or placement opportunities.

Hannah Anders is working on a fall tour but no additional information is available at this time.

She packed her bags and moved to Los Angeles where she auditioned and put together a band of musicians that shared her passion for country music and for high-energy live shows. Alongside LA producer Daniel Ford, Hannah and her band created the EP “Turn It Up”.

The lead single off the EP “Trainwreck”, was inspired by rocky relationships everywhere, and Hannah’s powerful voice captivates you as she tells her tale through honest lyrics and an edgy arrangement. Spotlight: Richard Thorne

Webpage: http://www.richardthornemusic.com
Location: New York, NY, USA
Description: A mix of quirky acoustic pop , folk rock and some country influence with clever lyrics .
Biography: Inevitably , the word "quirky" pops up whenever anyone attempts to describe Richard Thorne’s music, whether it is in the chord progressions, the constantly changing time signatures within a song, in the melodies and lyrics or in his voice. He has always taken a somewhat atypical approach to song writing while still being mindful and influenced by the " masters " of the art of song writing.

Richard was born and raised in Central Upstate NY, and In his younger years, he had the privilege of being exposed to just about every style of music possible, from classical to jazz, to folk, country, pop, rock and musical theater. Thus, he has a great appreciation for all styles and genres of music and his influences are equally as broad and inclusive This is reflected in his song writing. So that at times, hints of anything from 60's pop to bluegrass and traditional country, to even Tin Pan Alley and musical theater, can be heard in his compositions.

He has been playing music since the age of 6 when he began with the obligatory piano lessons, Then, at age 10, he eagerly started playing the drums, and later at 18, he picked up his first guitar in order to take a tentative stab at song writing.

He moved at a young age to New York City, where he has been a long time resident, to pursue a career in both theater and dance, which  included studying acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse, a brief scholarship at the New York School of Ballet, numerous performances in both fields and even a stab at choreography. But in the late 70's, he  returned to music playing the drums for  several "New Wave" bands. In 1980, he  stepped out front to make his debut at a folk club in Greenwich Village, as a guitar strumming singer songwriter, accompanied by a saxophonist and a  bongo player, playing very nontraditional folk songs. This did not exactly endear him to the folk community. He soon added an electric violin and bass to the mix,  named the group Richard Thorne and The Side Effects and preceded to write and play his quirky acoustic folk pop songs at various venues in the city. He continued to tinker with his sound, constantly changing the personnel and instrumentation, including forming a somewhat standard rock band with whom he released in 1981, a 45 RPM, single “Junkie For Your Love”. One of his more successful and entertaining projects, was his somewhat theatrical “Richard Thorne’s Summer Party” show in which he fronted an eight member female band singing songs both celebrating and bemoaning the summer experience in an urban environment. Then in 1993, except for one impromptu performance at a hotel bar in Jalapa, Mexico, he put away his guitar and took a very long sabbatical from both performing and writing. But as the new century approached, he once again picked up his guitar to write and record his first CD, “Undercover Overachiever” in 2000. After that EP, which one critic described as " experimental folk " he started to lean toward a more americana, country folk sound incorporating at times the upright bass, banjo, mandolin, fiddle and the pedal steel into his sound . But there was always still that " quirky " element . In addition to “Amalgam” and the EP , he released, “One Plus Six” in 2007, the "One" being a Christmas song and the "Plus Six ", 6 secular country folk songs. He is a long time member of ASCAP , and multi recipient of their ASCAP PLUS Awards and a member of the International Folk Alliance .
