| Biography: Paul Goodwin grew up in London but lives in Cambridge now. He's spent the last 10 years or so dragging his guitar around the rail network and on the odd plane, playing his quietly heartbreaking songs anywhere that would have him, to anyone who would listen, and quite a few people that wouldn't. His music has taken him all over the UK as well as to Canada, France and America and he's played alongside acts ranging from Alessi's Ark to Waterson:Carthy to Wayne Hussey. His painstakingly produced first album, Scars came out in 2009 and the follow up mini-album Trinkets and Offcuts is released in summer 2011. He also made several EPs and had an acoustic CD on pioneering internet record label Burning Shed. |

Release: Paul Goodwin's debut album 'Scars', nine years in the making, was released in 2009 to modest critical acclaim, and this, the follow up mini-album, 'Trinkets and Offcuts', is to be released in August 2011. 'Trinkets...' is far more than its modest title suggests, a short but diverse and rewarding album which subtly expands on the themes and sonic palette of 'Scars', to great effect. Opening with the punchy, confrontational 'This Place Is Dead Anyway', which brings to mind the ghost of Phil Ochs sparring with a heartbroken Billy Bragg, the album traces a discernable trajectory of resistance and resolve amidst the desolated observational writing that will be familiar to fans of 'Scars'. Amongst many highlights are the funny, warm 'The Ghost Of Paddy's Night Past', the brilliantly described, deeply personal dialogues of the resigned 'Nothing To Say' and the terse 'Ball & Chain', but it's hard to pick a favourite from this exceptionally consistent and lovingly crafted record. |
