International Blues Challenge - Preview 2

JP Soars & Little Joe McLerran

Sit On The Couch

JP Soars

JP Soars & The Red Hots won the Band Challenge in 2009. Soars also individually won the event's Albert King Award, which established him as the best guitar player in the competition
JP Soars, is a musical melting pot, with influences from all genres of music, including heavy metal, which is where his professional career as a musician got it’s start.
What has happened to JP and the band since their win?

We will speak to JP about that and also his recent collaboration with past Couch guests Victor Wainwright andDamon Fowler in Southern Hospitality, a super group for the blues if there is one.

Of course, we will catch tunes from JP's latest album, Back Of My Mind.

"Little" Joe McLerran

2009 was also the year Joe McLerranwon the Solo/Duo Challenge.
Since then, McLerran has been taking his Piedmont Blues to all corners of the Earth.
In the spring of 2010, on behalf of Jazz at Lincoln Center and the US State Department, Little Joe took his band for a month long tour of Middle Eastern countries Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
McLerran won the IBC on his fourth try.  What kept driving him to make his way to Memphis for the Challenge?  What did he learn from the rigorous event and how has it aided his career since?
We will chat with Joe about these things while listening to his music.
