Afropop Worldwide Rolls out New Web Site—Afropop.org


June 7, 2012—Afropop Worldwide is pleased to announce its new and improved web site—afropop.org --inviting colleagues, African and world music fans to check it out. The site gives users on-demand access to its award winning, nationally syndicated public radio programs as well as accompanying interviews, photo essays, video and more. Also available are web-only podcasts such as "A Summer walk around Tahrir Square" based on the material gathered in Egypt four our  five part Hip Deep Egypt series.

The new site’s home page features large, striking images connected to CD reviews, programs, blog posts from its active blog and more. Users can also now commit through any web syndication format and comment on anything posted!

The current program is “Afropop’s Summer 2012 Concert Previews” featuring songs from favorite artists touring North America as well as links to the artists’ sites and to festivals in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally they have released “Afropop’s New York Summer Concert Guide”  listing 24 concerts they consider the best of the best.

Coming attractions this summer: a four part series on Brazil including programs on the story of samba based on original reporting in Rio and, later, a four part series on Angola.

Hosted by veteran Cameroonian broadcaster Georges Collinet, the program started in1988 and is now distributed by Public Radio International (PRI) throughout the United States on over 100 stations as well as networks in Europe.  Afropop’s companion website—www.afropop.org--was one of the first dedicated to African music.  The site has kept up with changing technologies and remains one of the richest African music destinations on the internet.
